昨日11歳の誕生日を迎えた次女宛に、ホグワーツ魔法学校から入学許可書がポストに届いた。心から歓喜し、これからやりたいことを家族に熱く語った。長女は卒業文集に映画鑑賞の感想文を書くといって『はじまりのうた』のDVDを見返し、「音楽の魔法だ。平凡な風景が意味のあるものに変わる。陳腐でつまらない景色が、美しく光り輝く真珠になる。」という主人公ダンの言葉が、いかに自分の心を動かしたかについて2000字程度の文章を真夜中にまでかかって書き上げた。「音楽を聴くことで前向きになれたり、自分の考えが変化したり、助けられたりすることもある。だから音楽は私の人生に本当に欠かせないものなのだ。私はきっと音楽の魔法を信じているのだろう。」
「魔法」。娘たちはそれを信じている。12月の寒々とした部屋がほのかに輝き出したようだった。その光景は素晴らしかった。彼女たちはすでに魔法使いなのだ。
 
もうすぐクリスマス。今年出会った方々がみな素敵なクリスマスをお過ごしになることを心よりお祈りしています。今年一年の感謝を込めて。
 
 
Yesterday, a letter of acceptance from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrived in the post for my younger daughter, who had just turned 11. She was overjoyed and passionately shared her dreams and plans with the family. My elder daughter, on the other hand, decided to write a review for her graduation essay about the movie Begin Again. She rewatched the DVD and wrote a 2,000-word essay, working late into the night. She reflected on the protagonist Dan’s words, “It’s the magic of music. The ordinary scenery becomes meaningful. A dull and boring view transforms into a radiant, beautiful pearl.” She expressed how deeply those words resonated with her heart. And, she wrote, “Music transforms a person, their life into something beautiful. Listening to music can uplift you, change your perspective, and offer comfort. That’s why music is truly essential in my life.”
“Magic.” My daughters believe in it.
The cold, wintry room in December suddenly began to glow faintly for a moment. The sight was magnificent.　I thought that they were already witches.
